Michel Sidibé is the executive director of UNAIDS. The Joint United Nations Program is working towards stopping new HIV infections and ensuring that everyone living with HIV has access to HIV treatment. We had the chance to talk to Michel during the International AIDS Conference in Amsterdam. Here’s what he thinks about the possibilities the youth has to help ending AIDS.

Owen Ryan was the Executive Director of the International AIDS Society (IAS) – one of the worlds largest membership associations for people who are working on the front line of HIV. At the International AIDS Conference in Amsterdam we had the opportunity to talk to him and discuss the role of the youth when it comes to fighting HIV and AIDS.

This year, we are official partner of the 22nd International AIDS Conference that takes place in Amsterdam. On this occasion, we invited a total of 300 volunteers from all over the world to join us, present their projects and to network. Youth against AIDS (YAA) today announced that it will partner with Gilead Sciences to launch its ‘Youth Headquarters’ at the International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2018) from 20 to 27 July in Amsterdam, 2018. Through this initiative, – hundreds of young volunteers from all over the world will be trained in various skill workshops by the award-winning educational initiative Youth against AIDS. Subsequently, these volunteers will implement educational projects and raise awareness with campaigns and social media work together with Youth against AIDS in their home countries, setting an example of how communities can work together in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We need a new generation of youth leadership in the global fight against HIV. That’s why Youth against AIDS (YAA) brings hundreds of youth activists from all around the world as ambassadors to the 22nd International AIDS Conference in Amsterdam. The work of Youth Against AIDS and the numerous young people who are volunteering in the international association, takes place practically and in direct exchange with other educational initiatives and young people. Events such as the Asia Pacific AIDS & Co-infections Conference (APACC) in Hong Kong, which takes place June 27-30 in Hong Kong’s Convention & Exhibition Center, are important for the youth association.
